A05 - Self Discipline

12 Hour Cardio Challenge For Sport Relief

Starting from today wednesday 22nd february every unit 20 public services lesson we are going to be planning our culverhay sport relief 12 hour cardio challenge.

Lesson 1
In the first lesson of planning on the 22nd of february we as a class wrote everything down that we need to plan like posters, banners and sponsorship forms etc.
I turned up about 10 minutes late for this lesson so my self disipline for this lesson let me down a bit but I managed to contribute to the lesson.

Lesson 2
On monday the 27th february in our 2nd lesson heading towards the 12 hour challenge we as a group went to the gym and started our fitness lesson. There was 8 of us 4 on the treadmills, 3 on the crosstrainers and 1 on the static bike. I turned up with full kit with the culverhay logo on my shorts and t shirt.
I think my self discipline was good for this lesson because I turned up on time with full kit to change in to and I completed an 30 minute run on the treadmill.

Lesson 3
On wednesday the 7th march in our lesson we had our own tasks to do my task along with George and Adam was to go to the art department and see an at teacher about making a banner with one of their smaller classes helping her.

Lesson 4. Double session
On Monday the 12th march we did a double session of cardio. Starting from 11 - 11.30 I ran on the treadmill on level 8, followed at 1 - 1.30 on the crosstrainer on level 8.
I arrived on time at 11 with full kit so I managed to complete 30 minutes on the treadmill with the treadmill on level 8, I managed to complete it reletivley comfortably.
I also arrived on time at 1, got changed and jumped on the crosstrainer and completed 30 minutes on the crosstrainer with it on level 8.
I think my self discipline and organiseation for the 2 sessions was good because I managed to complete both sessions on time and also with wearing the correct kit.

Lesson 5. Triple session
On Friday the 16th march I completed a triple session of cardio. Starting on the treadmill where I completed an half an hour run on level 8 from 8.30 - 9. I was 15 minutes late which let my self disipline down a bit but I turnt up with full kit so I was able to get on with it.
The second session of the day I turnt up at 10.15 - 10.45 and completed half an hour on the cross trainer at level 8.
The third and last session of the day I turnt up at 12 and completed an half an hour session again I was on the cross trainer where I completed it from 12 - 12.30 on level 8.
Overall after the 3 sessions that I did which overall was 90 minutes of cardio I felt good and I was feeling the differences in the training I had been completing in the last couple of weeks.
Overall I managed to complete about 13 kilometres on the cross trainer and treadmill.
Also on this day we as a group completed a KS4 assembly from 1.40 - 2 explaining about what challenge we will be completing and how pupils can help to raise money for sport relief including a mufty day and helping clock up the miles by doing little stints on the static bike for 50p a time.
As part of the assembly we wore trousers, shirts and shoes to look smart and formal except myself who was demonstrating a taste of what we were doing on the day of the challenge by riding a static bike all through and during the assembly.
Our self disipline was good for this assembly as we turned up in trousers, shirts and shoes for this.

The week where we were set to complete 8 - 10 sessions in 5 days
Starting from monday the 19th of march until friday the 23rd of march I completed 8 30 minute sessions of cardio fitness in prepreation for the 12 hour cardio challenge im taking part in on monday the 26th of march.
I completed 3 sessions on the treadmill, 3 sessions on the static bike and 2 sessions on the cross trainer.
Every session is completed on level 8 on each the treadmill, cross trainer and static bike so it prepares us to be able to cope with the intensity on the day.
On the friday of this week we took or second assembly this time it was a KS3 assembly where we presented the same assembly as the week before and showed the same video as well as presenting the same presentation. Again we wore shirts, trousers and shoes in the assembly to look formal and professional.
My self disipline for this week was good but could of been better. Are target was to complete either 8, 9 or 10 sessions. I completed 8 mainly down to only completing 1 on the thursday down to having a school football match so I wanted to save some energy for that.
Also on the thursday after the football match myself, George, Adam and Mrs Gillespie designed and completed a banner for the challenge on monday to go up in the old gym.

The Day of the Run

On monday the 26th of march the day of the challenge I was awake and in school by 04.45 am in prepreation to start the challenge by 05.00 am. I was equipted with lots of fluids, food like pasta with lots of carbs in to help me last throughout the day also I had a few extra t shirts to change into during the course of the day to relax in. There was 3 exercise machines were using, a treadmill, a crosstrainer and a static bike, there was 8 pupils taking part, myself, George, Adam, Nathan, Liam, Jamie, Cameron and Bon plus our teacher Mr Hooper completed the 9 we needed to complete the challenge. We used a 3 on 3 off pattern throughout the day, Jamie, Adam and Cameron kicked off the challenge by completing the first leg followed by Liam, Nathan and Mr Hooper on the second leg followed by myself, George and Bon, this was the order all through the day from 5am to 5pm.
After each of your 30 minute stints of intense exercise you would get a 60 minute break to relax and recharge the batteries for your next stint, this would be the routine that would be followed during the whole day.
Throughout the day I recorded the distance I travelled on each exercise machine and a grand total of the distance I travelled in the whole challenge.
On my first leg I was on the static bike, this was from 6am - 6.30 am in this time i travelled 9.7 km averaging about 20 kph.
Next I was on the cross trainer, this was from 7.30 am - 8am in this time I travelled 4.4 km.
Next I was on the treadmill, this was from 9am - 9.30 am in this time I travelled 4 km.
On my fourth leg which was the half way stage for me again I was on the treadmill and again I travelled 4 km, this was from 10.30 am - 11 am.
Next I was on the static bike, this was from 12pm - 12.30 pm in this time I travelled 9.8 km averaging about 20 kph the same as before.
Next I was on the treadmill, this was from 1.30 pm - 2pm, again I travelled 4 km.
The last two legs I was again on the treadmill, the penoltimate leg I travelled 3.98 km, this was from 3 pm - 3.30 pm.
On my last leg, this was the finale for the whole challenge I travelled 4 km, this was from 4.30 pm - 5pm.
.
Overall feedback

I think my self disipline, attendance and punctuality was good on the day because I turned up on time and I completed the challenge, also during some of the rest periods I went around to classrooms and departments raising more money and getting people in on the bikes that were in the old gym for people to go on for 5 minutes a time, each person that had a go would donate 50p towards the cause. During the course of the day we had quite a lot of students and teachers having a go on the bikes. At lunchtime Mr Thompson the head teacher came in and had a go for the cause.

Looking back at the whole challenge I think my self disipline and attitude towards the whole challenge was good because I only missed one lesson in the whole process, so my overall reliability was good, also I contributed ideas and the making of the banner and taking part in the assembly's. The group as a whole worked really well and the majority of the time were reliable to complete the challenge and we achieved our goal of travelling 217 miles in our 12 hour cardio challenge with all the proceds and money raised going to sport relief.

I am very impressed with your blog diary, you have added excellent detail and added some information on analysing your self discipline. To improve further could you add the photos taken, the posters used around school and or the powerpoint used in the assemblies.

I am further impressed by the fact that you are the only person in our group to make a start on your Chepstow Army blog. Keep us this new found work ethic and I am sure you will surprise yourself on what you can achieve!
